PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Getting Started

By Charles Glaser, RSVA President,
Fall, 2006

I hope this message finds you all well and rested after the RSVA convention.  For those of you that came to Jacksonville I thank you for your support and look forward to working with you in the future.  And for the members that were not able to attend we missed you and want you to get involved.  Now we are getting back to the business of the future of the Randolph-Sheppard Act.  As I hope you all know the Act is once again under intense scrutiny.  It is RSVA’s position that we will work among ourselves and with our partners to preserve the Act as we know it and to promote initiatives to improve opportunities for ourselves and future Vendors.

It is said that for every hundred members in an organization there are five members doing ninety five percent of the work.  If this is true a hand full of people will play a vital roll in all of our futures.

My first official duty as president is to assign Chairman of RSVA’s Committees.  This task is nearly done.  These Chair people bring to the table many years of experience in the areas they will administrate.  Many of the names you will hear will be familiar.  Others will become house hold names to vendors throughout the coming months.

Now it comes to you the rest of the five percent that will shape our future.  Committee Chairs can not do all the work alone and I don’t think that any of us want one persons opinion carry the weight of our membership.  Some of you have worked closely with RSVA on the national level in the past and some of you have lurked in the background getting what information you could from the Vendorscope and conversations with people involved in designing our future.  It is now time for you to come out of the shadows and bring your expertise to RSVA.

RSVA’s Committee’s are listed in the Vendorscope.  All of these committees are important to our future in different ways.  Some carry our message forward.  Others strengthen our organization and voice.  While still others generate income to make it all happen.

We at RSVA want you to help shape our future.  Just think to yourself, how your experience and knowledge could contribute to a committee and either express your willingness to help on the RSVA-l list serve or contact me at (770) 925-1822 or Kim in our national office at (800) 467-5299 directly and we will make sure the committee chair is informed of your interest.  If we all work together we can not only stem the erosion of our program but preserve its future.

Thank you again and let’s get started.
